FAQ - Commercialisation Questions
How long will it take before I see any profit?

From our experience, it takes time. On average you might be able to have your product developed from idea to commercialisation within six to twenty-four months depending on complexity.

How much will it cost me?

It is very difficult to determine the expense required to bring your idea to commercialisation. At your first consultation we will be able to assess your position and determine exactly the services you require assistance with. A comprehensive proposal detailing the recommended services and costing will then be presented.

Can Invent Resources fund my project?

Invent Resources is a service based company which simply means that our expertise, time and effort needs to be remunerated. We have chosen to operate in this manner not only to be able to sustain the extensive amount of work, staff and running costs involved in the daily activities but also to prove our clients are all equal avoiding any potential conflict of interest.

What is the ultimate objective in developing my idea?

The main objective in developing your idea is to create for you another form of revenue.  Typically there are 3 scenarios in which the commercialisation department will use to achieve this.

Firstly, depending on the available fund and the simplicity of the product it may be advantageous to manufacture the product yourself then possibly enter into a distribution agreement with an enterprise with extensive and proven distribution networks.

Secondly, a licensing agreement may be arranged where a company licenses both manufacture and distribution of your product.

Thirdly, the complete out right sale of the product, including all rights and intellectual property may be arranged.

Can you assist me with finding a venture capitalist?

Through our numerous contacts we may very well find the right party to invest in your project. As stated previously a party is more likely to be successfully engaged depending on the level of development of a project.

Will the intellectual property be sold?

Your intellectual property is a significant part of your idea development and thus very valuable. Depending on the commercialisation strategy it is important to consider the possibilities of selling your intellectual property and it is the primary reason why it is recommended that from the initial stages that the correct company set up is obtained.

Where will the product be manufactured?

There are many aspects that need to be considered when deciding where to manufacture your product. Careful consideration needs to be made on where product is manufactured as it may affect the eligibility for obtaining Australian government grants. An advantage of having the product developed in Australia is that it allows you to easily monitor production and quality issues.  The biggest disadvantage is obviously the manufacturing costs when compared to places such as China and India.  With the world market becoming more and more competitive consumer pricing can make or break a product no matter how good the product is.  With our network of factories throughout Asia, Invent Resources is able to achieve competitive market price points throughout the world.

Depending on the commercialisation strategy achieved, in some instances for example when you have entered into a manufacturing licensing agreement you may have no say in where the product is manufactured.

Where will the product be distributed?

Choosing where and who will distribute your product is one of the most important decisions you will need to make.  Launching and distributing a new product needs to be carefully calculated.  In most cases an extensive intentional distribution is optimal to ensure world wide market exposure however launching a product through the wrong avenues can be detrimental to the overall success of the product.

Distribution also plays an important role in where your product should be manufactured.  With the United States and Europe covering more than 80% of the potential consumer market, China and Taiwan are considered the ideal manufacturers providing competitively manufacture pricing with the necessary infrastructure for international distribution and Free On Board (FOB) agreements to these destinations.
